Creating an Anchor Link in Word

Definition

An Anchor Link is a link that takes you from one spot in a document to another spot in the same document.



Process

Create the Anchor, or Bookmark. This is where you want to jump to

  • Place cursor where the link will take the reader

  • Click Insert on top toolbar

  • Click Bookmark on the Insert menu and Bookmark pop-up box will open

  • Type a name for the Bookmark (e.g., the word being bookmarked)

  • Click Add

Create the Link. This is where you want to jump from.

  • Highlight the word(s) that will be the link

  • Click Hyperlink on the insert menu and Insert Hyperlink pop-up box will open

  • Click Place in This Document on left sidebar and list of named bookmarks will open

  • Click name of bookmark matching this link

  • Click Ok

Process is Complete.

  • When clicking on the highlighted link, the reader will be directed to the bookmarked anchor on the page.
